A project of this scale takes more than construction alone. It takes months of coordination, detailed finishing work and a team that can deliver when a building reaches its final stage.
Thirteen Commercial Cleaning was involved in the delivery of the new Cultural Institutions Collections Storage Facility at Walkley Heights, working alongside Sarah Constructions across the final stages of the project. Over four months, more than 45 team members worked throughout the facility, carrying out final and detailed cleaning to prepare the spaces for handover.
Our scope covered storage areas, documentation shelving, floors, windows, glazing and common areas across a large and highly specialised facility. From detailed glass cleaning through to the presentation of completed spaces, our team worked to ensure each area was ready for its next stage.
Behind the scale of the facility is an even bigger collection. Around six million items are being housed within the new facility, bringing together artworks, artefacts, archives and Aboriginal cultural collections from institutions including the South Australian Museum, Art Gallery of South Australia, State Library of South Australia and History Trust of South Australia.
Purpose-built storage environments, specialised temperature and humidity controls, cool rooms, blast freezers and air quality management systems have all been incorporated to help protect these collections for the long term. The facility also provides dedicated spaces for research, education and engagement with Aboriginal communities.
